Re: Beautydylan's Dumping Ground
(Cross posting this from another forum that I wrote)
Some people just do not understand depression. Depression isn't
something you can just "snap out of", it's something you really need to
work hard to get out of it and often it's easy to slide back down
again. It's like a river - it's so easy to be overwhelmed and swept
away; and sometimes it's impossible to swim against.
Just as you think you're beginning to recover the black walls
close round you once again. The slightest thing can cause it - like
someone speaking sharply to you, or getting into trouble for something
that wasn't even your fault in the first place.
When you're depressed, it feels like you're the only person who feels
this way and everyone else has "perfect lives". It feels like everyone
believes you're insane because you're not cheerful and moving around
like people expect you to.
You lose interest in everything you once loved, your concentration goes,
you feel like life isn't worth living any more. In severe cases you
can become suicidal like I did. Depression is an illness and needs to
be recognised as one. It's not just "feeling blue" every now and again,
it's feeling like no one cares and you deserve to suffer and die.
Sometimes you'll even hear voices, telling you you're better off jumping
in the river or something. Those voices are no fun. In my experience
if you tell them to leave you alone they start tormenting you more,
imitating you telling them to leave you alone and laughing/sneering at
you. Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it.
Depression is something you battle with for years, once it's there it
can creep back into your life at any time, even if you think it won't
come back it might creep back when you least expect it.
How many people do you know who have been depressed? Think about it,
someone with a physical injury you're able to say you know x number with
a physical injury or disability, but depression is different. Some
people with depression are good at putting on a brave face to the world
and pretending everything's fine even when it's not. Depressed people
may merely seem a bit more distant than normal, but won't show any other
outward signs. People need to become more aware of depression and it's
effects on the person suffering from it and their families.

Re: Beautydylan's Dumping Ground
Only this morning I've been reading up on the various forms of depression, wanted to find out what my one is, but sort of drew a blank. There are as many as 9 some careering off from other more well known ones. I believe yours could be Bipolar. Here is an example, first we need to recognise them.
http://www.depression-guide.com/types-of-depression.htm
http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/depression_different_types?open
Unlike you beautydylan, I dont hear voices, nor do I want to end my life. But I do now recognise that I had a nervous breakdown when in my teens, although I didnt know at the time of having one, and on several occasions took an overdose tablets, twice with drink, a cry for help, and had my stomach pumped, this happened in my early 20s.
Baring in mind this all happened 40 odd years ago, there was no help in those days, so basically I have always dealt with this by myself. I still suffer with bouts. Just want to say, on my good days, I rise above it all, feel strong, feel motivated, keep telling myself life will get better, my life will change, yet in reality, my life up till now has remained the same. But this form of action is what keeps me plodding on, keeps me striving. You too can do it, dont let it win. Of course my reason for depression may not be the same reason as yours.

I forgot about this picture - it was one I took one day when Dylan needed a bath (he loved baths and would play water fights for fun)

Re: Beautydylan's Dumping Ground
Love the pics of yo' kit family...LOL
About depression...
As a teen I too lost my control but that
is because who brings us up didn't have
the answers but we can "break the chain"
and learn to cope with what living throws us..
Everyone will get hit and we could fall deep
into a depression...
Food makes a big difference
Keeping our chin-up above the
rig-a-ma-roll's life hits us with
like a traffic ticket we don't have
money or the heart for can bring
us down deep... "if we let it"
so the answer is stay-away from
trouble even if it's family and
get strong on your own legs
to be able to cope. Set goals
and work toward attaining them.
Try to rely on yourself first then ask
for help. Are you really clinicaly
depressed or can you do something
or if your resources were better ("or
so you think" is another philosophy)
would you be able to cope?
Sometimes meds can be used for a short
time to calm down and function rationally
again. Or it's so past the point "just do it"
meaning go forward coping best you can
for your means.
It takes a Lifetime to Learn to Cope.
Coping Blessings Going Forward
