Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
Having good indoor air quality is very important, especially since many of us spend so much time inside. NASA did a study to find out which plants were best to filter the air of the space station, and their findings are available to all.
Read on to see which house plants are best to filter the air (no only producing Oxygen from CO2, but also absorbing benzene, formaldehyde and/or trichloroethylene.

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
I will take a look, as I would like the best available plants in my house.
I do also know the importance of trees, and their connection with the air that we breathe, this is why I get so sad and frustrated when I see a tree being cut down Luda.

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
Wow i never new that about plants.I only thought they gave off oxygen. My daughter has that plant in her house. The one in the picture above.I think it's called a piece lilly. My daughter has had this same plant for 2 years. She got it in the hospital when she had her son.At the time i thought it was a strange plant to give to someone who just had a baby??usually you give a bunch of flowers, assortment in color. But maybe this person who gave it to her new of its qualities. This is very interesting about plants, thank you for posting this valuable information luda.I'm going to look these plants up and get some for my house.

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
As i read your post Luda i decided to open the window next to me and get some fresh air, much needed I do Love plants & all of Life i also have known about trees producing oxygen as Vanilla2 had said. I too am sad when trees are cut down :-o, ,o-: I love plant life at times i would talk to them, or sing to them, also my favorite is giving my Love to them. I usually send Reiki to the garden to help them grow big and strong. There is not much plant life in my home, i would very much like to plant some of these plants and watch them grow to help filter the air in the home i live in. Wonderful Post Luda :lovesigh:

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
I am glad you guys found this beneficial. It also nice to know that people truly care about creation.
Great additional info Vanilla2, thank you, that was one of the meaningful coincidences that have become very frequent lately. I take those seriously now and will definitely surround my self with living plants, one at the time, as my budget allows.

I think the only thing i could say is "Amazing", so many coincidences for lack of a better word. I have also noticed these coincidences, just as the Celestine Prophecy talks about, at times it seems i am exactly where i need to be.

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
I am surrounded by houseplants and I have always been. A few years ago i moved to calgary, with as much as I could bring. When I got to my house and begain to get settled in, I noticed I was uneasy, stressed, and didnt really feel comferatble ( besides the fact that was the furthest ive been away from anyone i know).
I started to collect plants, and within a few weeks ( and about 10 plants later, I noticed a difference. Truely interesting.
I concider myself a plant nut, so if you need help with any of yours i will gladly help. Also here is a list that I have come up with of great house plants:
Any chamedorea palm
any dreceana
any ficus ( there is one inparticular called ficus religiosa ( bo fig, peepful fig), its the tree budda attained enlightenment under neet, a beutiful tree but a little harder to take care of.
Spider plants
diefffenbachia
sygonium
marble queen vine
Banana ( musa, ensete, musella)
Bamboo
these all clean there air, are relitivly easy to take care of, look amazing, and grow to a decent size.

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
Areca Palms are probably one of my favorites, but they need lots of light and humidity to really thrive. If you have a big southfacing window, or west thats ideal..
The boston fern most people cant kill, unless you give it too much light or not enough water. Draceana janet craig is nice, they get pretty tall, but theyll grow anywhere inside. Monstera, Philodendron, Ficus, Phoenix robelenieii, Yucca, are all great choices as well.
Basically any broad leaf plant, or a plants with many small leaves will clean the air very well.
And vanilla, If you fairly near the coast, or in the right area, you can grow palms, bamboo and many many other types of plants there outside. Anyone that lives in Zone 6 or higher can grow many types sub tropical plants outside.

Re: Plants to Filter the Air in Your House
Canadianmind no I'm quite a long way from any coast, we live in the countryside, over here it would be very hard to grow palm or bamboo in our back gardens, but thank you dearly for taking me into your consideration.
