Isolation…….

Thought For The Day.. - Page 2 Isolation

In a modern world stripped of values, purpose and meaning many people are suffering a sense of aimlessness, isolation and depression. These symptoms indicate a call to connect to something more nourishing than the habits of daily living - to find our place and purpose in the world, to realise who we could truly be.

Nice to see ya' too, D-knots. Not many familiar faces left in this forum!!.
What happened to Spirit-Being and Wind-Dancer?. Did they jumped into Lifeaboats before the Titanic sinks? (The Forum). It seems the ship's Captain has abandon ship!!

PM'ed them but not reply!

It's a shame because I am very fond of this forum and it would be a sad thing if it was to disappear.

I'l keep posting and if the forum goes down I will go down with it!!.

Keep posting d-Knots so we can at least keep this forum barely alive!!.

Be well

Well said Elrick, I'm afraid I was one who abandoned ship with no Admin and the posibility of this forum being taken over by unwelcome visitors.

You are right, this was / is a great forum, and it would be heart-breaking to see it come to an end.

Nice. I like.

As they say we only learn through our mistakes and the mistakes of others. Although wouldn't it be nice if we could learn through all-out perfection instead of injury and mistake. What would life be like without duality and with only unilateral perfection (all thought, behaviour, and action accomplished with, of and through love)?

Hello Manchester,

Thanks for your comments. Without duality, I feel human life will be the poorer, we would be missing the inherent human endowments and deprive us from insights rich in human experience.

The uncertainties of life and the vicissitudes of existence do not in any manner contradict the concept of the sovereignty of choice. All evolutionary creature life is beset by certain inevitabilities.

Consider the following :-

Is courage (strength of character) desirable?. Then we must be reared in an environment which necessitates grappling with hardships and reacting to disappointments.

Is altruism (service of one's fellows) desirable?. Then must life experience provide for encountering situations of social inequality.

Is hope (the grandeur of trust) desirable. Then human existence must constantly be confronted with insecurities and recurrent uncertainties.

Is faith (the supreme assertion of human thought) desirable?. Then must the human mind find itself in the troublesome predicament where it ever knows less than it can believe.

Is the love of truth and the willingness to go wherever it leads, desirable?. Then we must grow up in a world where error is present and falsehood always possible.

Is idealism (the approaching concept of wisdom) desirable?. Then we must struggle in an environment of relative goodness and beauty, surroundings stimulative of the irrepressible reach for better things.

Is loyalty (devotion to highest duty) desirable?. Then we must carry on amid the possibilities of betrayal and desertion. The valor of devotion to duty consists in the implied danger of default.

Is unselfishness (the spirit of self-forgetfulness) desirable? Then we must live face to face with the incessant clamoring of an inescapable self for recognition and honor. We could not dynamically choose the wisdom in life if there were no self-values to forsake. We could never lay saving hold on righteousness if there were no potential evil to exalt and differentiate the good by contrast.

Is pleasure (the satisfaction of happiness) desirable?. Then we must live in a world where the alternative of pain and the likelihood of suffering are ever-present experiential possibilities.

Hi Elrick,

Thank you for your response. It got me to think. And I love when that happens. So, I got to thinking, and wondered what if one has learned all that you listed: courage, altruism, hope, faith... What happens after that? Couldn't one go to a higher reality where everyone already has learned to live with courage, altruism, hope, faith...? And if one were to go there, what would they learn then?

Basically my theory is there could be a reality, a world where one can learn without needing the dark side of life to teach them. And in a world like that, faith and altruism would have already been learned because to act and think only in and with love is to have mastered all that you have listed before. And in such a world, a new school ground with new rules and new lessons would be needed. Just a thought...

I like to read about life in other dimensions and worlds that are more enlightened than our world. This doesn't mean I believe 100% that those world's exist. But I always ask myself, what if they do? Can a world really live in peace--no war, no famine, no illness, no hatred... Can one's whole existence be so peaceful that the only two main goals in life are to focus on spiritual pursuits and enjoy life? I can't help but wish to live in such a world.

Peace and joy to you.

Spirit-Being had problems, but you know the old saying, "A problem aired is a problem shared".

If only he stayed, we could have helped him through it. Thats what friends are for, and we were not just friends, but a family.

Being Quick to Hear

Thought For The Day.. - Page 2 Meditating_girl-water

Being quick to hear is a conscious, intentional choice that presumes the act of listening with the goal of grasping what another means by the words s/he uses.

Being quick to hear means to listen with suspended judgment and an attitude of deep respect. While each person has their own thoughts and beliefs and feelings, their experiences cannot be completely separate from ourselves The consciousness of one has a direct impact on that of the other. It is in that shared consciousness, where true empathy and insight can take place.

Absolutely Beautiful, the picture speaks many words, i know now what i need to do more of. Many times i find myself talking and talking but when it comes to actually Listening with full concentration & attention, i find myself spacing off, and asking the person to repeat what they had said. I would very much like to listen more, the next time i have the opportunity to Listen, i am going to pay closer attention to whats being said. This will truly help in many ways. Thumb

Empty Your Cup

A professor visited a Zen master to enquire about Zen. As the master was speaking the professor kept interupting with his own opinions. So the master served some tea. He overfilled the cup and tea went everywhere. The professor shouted "the cup is full, there is no room for more tea!" The master replied "like this cup, your mind is so full of its own opinions, there is no room for anything new, in order to taste my tea, you must first empty your cup."

YES! That is exactly it~

You can not receive if you are full of yourself~

How can God answer when you think you already know?
How can you grow when you think you are an adult?
How can you learn when you think you learned enough?

Make Space ......make INNER SPACE!

Look at the Night Sky and all its beauty~
Now Remove the Space and jam everything together......

No Space ~ No Beauty
KNOW Space ~ No Beauty
