Aum (Om) Chant
When i meditate i love using the Aum (Om) chant, i will relax sit in a meditative position and chant Ooooommmmm. As i do this i feel my mind becoming clearer, with each chant it seems like another thought is being released from my cluttered mind. And my mind becomes much more clearer. Chanting is a great way to relax and find peace. There are many helpful chants out there.
Many Blessings

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
I believe that Chanting is a very powerful tool in either Meditation, or in Prayer, or in any other combination. Clearing the mind enhances these experiences tenfold (so ive read), and using by Chanting as a tool to reach that sense of clarity also helps align and open the Chakras.
I still find unfamiliarity and become self conscious when attempting to Chant. Nobody is around to hear me, its just my own insecurity I guess. I need to try and get over that!

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
I am going through something similar, I have trouble chanting if people can hear me, so what usually happens is that i dont end up chanting at all. My insecurities affect me also, your not alone in this.
 ---> You will wake up from this insecurty, i believe this as will I.
I love how you use the word tool this is so true, we all have tools in our spiritual bag so to speak, that we can all use to better our lives. And chanting is one of many.
Many Blessings
Merry Christmas

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
recently,
my daughter and I were chanting
each our own chants; hers had three syllables
and mine had two...
and we did this for 60 seconds and had a good laugh
we experience alot of negativity and it was a good moment
in our lifetime to relax to laugh....LOL

That is great d-knots
We all need a really good laugh from time to time, maybe you and your daughter broke through some of the tension and negativity. A step in the right direction.

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
Om ( aum) is a good chant to open up your third eye chakra, which opens up you receptivity to other peoples psycic powers.
For a week straight i chanted all the way up my chakras ( lam vam ram yam ham om then silence). When i got to silence, i have never felt so relaxed, and open to earthy energies ever. If you chant the right pitch, you can literaly feel the vibration in the chakra your are chanting and focusing on, one of the coolest feelings ever

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
The symbol and meaning of Aum is one that I value greatly. In fact I wear its symbol around my neck.
If anyone is interested, this is what it stands for: The source of all existence.
A little History about the Aum or Om…
Aum or Om is the most important Hindu symbol. This symbol is actually a sacred syllable representing the Brahman or the Absolute ~ the source of all existence. Brahman, in itself, is incomprehensible so a symbol becomes mandatory to help us realize the Unknowable.
It is made up of three Sanskrit letters, aa, au and ma which, when combined, make the sound Aum or Om and is also called pranava, to mean that it pervades life and runs through our prana or breath.

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
Is that why its associated with the 3rd eye chakra? To my knowledge, the third eye is for recieveing higher messages, and self knowing. Also the source for infused knowlegde?

Not sure..I think it is interesting that there is a symbol for this infinite source of all existence because there is no other way to even imagine such a thing. We need a symbol to remind us that there is no symbol or thought that could begin to understand this source.
How amazing and profound. This source is beyond all thought, all mind. Incomprehensionable to the flesh!

Symbols have always been a human invention to help them understand the unexplainable. I think were are at a time whre symbols are becoming obselete. We will finaly just know the truth iin the years to come

All of life is a symbol to me.
Personally I love symbols and tradition and try to incorporate them into my life as much as possible.
To me, it’s a cool way to bring to mind what is in our hearts.
One example are prayer sticks…I place them outside, filled with my prayers and a feather tied to them when something very special to me comes up in the way of prayer. This way when I look at them I am reminded of my prayers and I envision the wind blowing the feather and the prayers into the heavens at all times.
Is this necessary…no…..but it really feels good to me!
Then again, I’m old fashioned!

Re: Aum (Om) Chant
I too like to meditate with incense and candles ..
i was once told by a very well known, (well at least in aus) psychic that Om was the first word uttered by man, and it is in fact the vibration of this sound that causes the effect that it does..
interesting little sound isnt it
