meaning and happiness
The terms hedonism and eudaimonism(A system of ethics that evaluates actions in terms of their capacity to produce happiness).brings to mind the great philosophical debate, which has shaped Western civilization for over 2,000 years, about the nature of the good life.
Does happiness lie in feeling good, as hedonists think, or in doing and being good, as Aristotle and his intellectual descendants, the virtue ethicists, think?
From the evidence of this study(A functional genomic perspective on human well-being), it seems that feeling good is not enough. People need meaning to thrive. In the words of Carl Jung, “The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.” Jung’s wisdom certainly seems to apply to our bodies, if not also to our hearts and our minds.
Are intent and meaning so associated that one can't really have one without the other?

Re: meaning and happiness
I am personally in agreement.
The pleasures one seeks eventually hold no pleasure if they do not also hold meaning.
Without meaning they become a Why. why am I doing this.. what is it I am truly seeking.
like sex just for pleasure and release...
eventually gets boring and sends one in search of another pleasure giver. because it soon becomes empty non fullfilling sex, yet most don't know the cause of this internal unrest. they just know they are no longer happy with the relationship.
But sex with Love.. gives it meaning ..expands the pleasure.. catipults it so to speak..then it worth holding onto.
makes the mundane into the precious
Best analogy I could create without using too many brain cells..lol
Personally I believe you can have intent... and never find the meaning.
is quality better then quantity in all things.....
